Footnotes:
A while back I received an e-mail from someone who took great offense
at the fact I referred to a Goldwing as "Japanese Hog Heaven". As most folks
know, the Goldwing is actually built in Ohio in a factory which is owned by the
employees.
He also took offense to my reference to the Goldwing as a "Hog", which
he thought was a comparison to that great American iron-horse the Harley
Davidson. Ah, but not so fast sez he.... "Nowhere will you find, "Made in the
USA" on a Harley". Well, I wouldn't know since I've never cared to get that
close to one. Actually, to set the record straight, I define a "Hog" as any
motorcycle which:
- Weighs as much as Geo.
- You need a reverse gear to back it up.
- You can't pick up without a crane if it falls over.
- Is often seen pulling a trailer.
As for the Japanese part? Well, that's what we called them back in the
70s when they arrived on the scene, so call it editorial license.
Curiously, out of about 100 people who have taken the time to comment
his is the only negative one I've ever gotten about this story.
That said, lets return to the exciting
story...
